Gerard O'Neill of Trello: Choosing a Tech Stack and Finding Your Community

Gerard O'Neill of Trello: Choosing a Tech Stack and Finding Your Community

After spending years going to more than 40 hackathons and mentoring constantly, Gerard has a number of tips for new developers on how to find your tribe and choose your technology.

Gerard O'Neill is a developer at Trello (previously at Etsy) who has been to over 40 hackathons (and mentored at more than half of them). He is also a mentor for Viking's Flex Program.

In this Codecast, Gerard talks about two key challenges that beginner developers have. The first, which tech stack to choose, often feels the most significant (but it is relatively unimportant in the bigger picture). The second is where and how to find a developer community that can support your growth. During our exploration of communities, we'll specifically discuss hackathons, which can provide great fun, friends and mentorship all in one.
